A Valuation of Symmio

DATE POSTED:January 3, 2025

Symmio is an intent-based protocol enabling bilateral agreements between users and solvers, addressing key inefficiencies in order book and AMM-based perpetual trading models. By allowing users to express trading intents without specifying execution details, Symmio shifts the burden of execution to solvers, reducing gas costs, adverse selection risks, and liquidity fragmentation. Solvers aggregate liquidity from both onchain and offchain venues, providing deeper markets, stable funding rates, and access to a broader range of trading pairs. Currently focused on perpetual trading, Symmio supports two primary frontends—IntentX and Pear Protocol—which capture the majority of its trading volume. Beyond perpetuals, Symmio’s bilateral agreement model positions it as a new DeFi primitive with applications in synthetic asset trading, decentralized OTC markets, and peer-to-peer financial agreements. Unlike routing-focused intent platforms, Symmio emphasizes direct counterparty discovery, creating isolated agreements that extend over time. Its unique approach unlocks previously untapped use cases while addressing the limitations of existing models.
