Spotify Android Auto gets a jam-packed update

DATE POSTED:July 7, 2025
Spotify Android Auto gets a jam-packed update

Spotify has updated its Android Auto application, introducing the Jam feature, a ‘Downloads’ section, and a floating Search button. The update, version 9.0.58.596, rolled out to Android users in recent days.

The Jam feature enables multiple Spotify users to listen to music together in real time. It is now accessible directly from Spotify’s Now Playing screen on Android Auto.

While music is playing, the Android Auto display generates a QR code that passengers can scan to participate in the Jam session and contribute tracks to the shared queue. The driver functions as the host, maintaining control over the Jam session and the capability to remove contributors.

Spotify Premium subscribers are required to initiate or host a Jam. Nevertheless, users with free Spotify accounts can join existing Jam sessions and add songs to the queue.

Google initially announced the Android Auto redesign for Spotify as part of its in-car experiences at I/O 2025. The company confirmed that the feature would also be available on vehicles with Google built-in at a later time.

In addition to the Jam feature, the updated Spotify app on Android Auto includes a “Downloads” section designed to streamline offline playback. A floating Search shortcut has been implemented to provide users with expedited access to Spotify’s search interface.
